Our Version Media® CIC is a Southampton-based community media enterprise that’s amplifying the voices of the region’s black and minoritised communities.
Founded by an ex-TV news journalist in 2019, OVM is increasing the positive visibility of these communities by teaching people digital media, journalism and smartphone film-making skills to tell and share their own, authentic stories.
OVM’s Mobile Storytelling and Roving Reporter workshops teaches everyone – from teenagers to pensioners – how to create, film and edit engaging videos and social media content using a smartphone.
OVM will be running their free Roving Reporter workshops at this year’s Southampton Mela. In this interactive workshop, participants will learn how to use their smartphone to cover – report and present from – events, just like a professional events reporter.
Participants will be shown how to capture great Mela footage and how to interview festival-goers, stallholders and performers. They’ll also be shown how to put it all together to make a video that showcases all the fun and excitement of the Mela, through their eyes!
It’s an exciting and fast-paced workshop! To take part you:
- Must be over 16
- Must be a Southampton resident in the SO14-SO19 areas
- Must have a smartphone with a working camera and microphone
- Must know how to use your smartphone’s camera to film (even a basic video)
