On 11th November Art Asia presented a celebration of Diwali the Festival of Lights, in collaboration with the Vedic Society, at Westquay Shopping Centre in Southampton for the first time.
It was a fantastic showcase of South Asian dance, music and culture, with many so many performers, workshop leaders and supporters turning out to entertain crowds of hundreds of people.
Art Asia were delighted to be invited by Westquay to present the first ever celebration of Diwali Festival in a public space.
Dahlia Jamil, the Chief Executive of Art Asia, who co-produced the event added “We were delighted with the turn out. It was so uplifting to see so many hundreds of people from all walks of life and from diverse communities enjoying and experiencing Diwali. The celebrations were brought together by the collective efforts of the Art Asia team, Westquay, Vedic Society, the workshop leaders including John Hansard Gallery, and Southampton staging and production suppliers Transform Venue and Paul Sparrow. Our experienced producer Matt Sanger brought light and colour to the space, it looked fantastic! I am so proud of the first Diwali celebrations in Westquay, and that it was all locally produced with local people, be they dancers, singers or visual artists.”
