Southampton Mela Festival Arts and Crafts Workshops

Published on: 5 July 2024

Join arts and craft workshops in the Art Tent

We have a wonderful group of artists and creators delivering workshops all day in the Art Tent, from card making, paper arts and crafts, Chinese calligraphy, Chinese chess, clay modelling, mask making, weavers and spinners, and event videography. Head over to get creative.

We look forward to hosting Alice Hume, Shyam Karore, Rajeshwari Mahajan, the Chinese Association of Southampton, African Activities, Shobhna Philips, and the John Hansard Gallery.

Textile and paper artist Alice Hume has been working with communities to create beautiful paper installations in association with Southampton Mela Festival. These paper installations were created in response to the cancellation of the 2023 Southampton Mela Festival. The Mela was cancelled due to a gale leaving over 2000 paper programmes, which have been recycled into beautiful paper installations to be displayed at this year’s Mela.

The workshops have created a space for conversations and a chance to learn simple craft skills in a relaxed environment. Alice Hume will be in the Art Tent running paper installation workshops all day at the Mela.
