The person who brought Asian radio to Southampton in the name of Radio Art Asia, is no more with us. He passed away peacefully in hospital on 3rd January 2017 at 3.20 in the afternoon at the age of 83 years.

He started broadcasting as a full time occupation on 1st March, 1955 when his duties included broadcasting, translating, reading news and administration. He was a fluent speaker of Urdu, Punjabi, Swahili, English Persian and Farsi. His broadcasting career spanned for more than 55 years. He helped to start and setup a number of radio stations and Southampton’s Unity 101 is one of them. He leaves behind his wife Tochi Chaggar who herself is an accomplished broadcaster, two daughters, one son and two grand children.
